I would add that test mastery(for school or SAT/IB/AP) is part of the perverse road of safe and secure put in front of students as the path to a brand school, leading to a brand corporate job all ultimately providing for a secure and "independent” adulthood. College counseling is definitely a course in conscious decision making.
